Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan has urged Russian investors to increase their presence in Tanzania, highlighting potential in sectors like mining, energy, agriculture, and pharmaceuticals. Speaking at the Tanzania-Russia Business and Investment Forum in St. Petersburg, President Hassan emphasized the need for concrete investments rather than just discussions to foster economic growth. She pointed out that despite long-standing diplomatic ties, bilateral trade remains significantly below its potential, with Russia representing less than one percent of Tanzania's trade volume in 2024.
The President presented Tanzania as an attractive investment hub, citing its large population, consistent economic growth, and strategic access to a vast regional market. She also detailed specific opportunities in infrastructure development, such as the Port of Dar es Salaam and the Standard Gauge Railway, and encouraged collaboration in mineral exploration, value addition, and the energy sector, including nuclear technology and oil and gas exploration.
The initiative aims to boost economic cooperation and unlock untapped investment potential between Tanzania and Russia, potentially leading to significant economic benefits for both nations.
