The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has clarified a misunderstanding regarding its financial audit processes. FAM emphasized that its financial statements undergo rigorous audits by certified auditors and are also reviewed by FIFA and the AFC. Former FAM President, Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin, refuted claims of the association failing to present or audit its finances for the past decade, stating that all procedures and statutes have always been followed. He explained that financial reports are first reviewed by the Finance Committee and Executive Committee (EXCO) before being presented to the Congress for approval. The issue raised by the AFC was not about the audited financials themselves, but rather the annual budget presentation not being brought to the Congress following a statute amendment in 2023.
This clarification is important to ensure transparency and maintain the integrity of FAM's financial management, especially concerning its relationships with international football bodies.
