The ABC understands the funeral of Sydney gangster Lorenzo Lemalu was originally scheduled to take place at the venue in Punchbowl, but the plans were changed.
Police are investigating a shooting incident at a Punchbowl venue on Saturday afternoon. Multiple shots were fired into the Diamond Venues Group building by an unknown SUV before it fled the scene. Authorities later discovered an abandoned, burning car in a nearby street, which they believe is connected to the shooting. The venue was reportedly where the funeral for Sydney gangster Lorenzo Lemalu was initially planned to be held before the arrangements were altered. Lemalu was killed in Vietnam earlier this month and his body was recently returned to Australia.
The incident raises concerns about ongoing gang activity and potential retaliation in Sydney.
