Zanzibar. For thousands of Tanzanians living abroad, the dream of owning a home in their homeland has often been hindered by financing challenges, limited access to mortgage products and concerns about managing investments from afar. Tanzania Commercial Bank (TCB) and Fumba Town developer CPS Africa have formed a strategic partnership to facilitate homeownership for Tanzanians living abroad. This collaboration aims to overcome common obstacles such as financing difficulties and managing investments remotely. Eligible diaspora members can now access TCB's Nyumbani Mortgage facility, offering competitive rates and extended repayment periods for properties within Fumba Town, a significant urban development in Zanzibar.
The agreement allows for financing in both Tanzanian shillings and US dollars, with remote application options and dedicated support managers. This initiative is seen as a major opportunity for expatriates to invest in real estate back home, whether for personal use or as a rental income source, capitalizing on Zanzibar's expanding tourism sector.
This partnership addresses a key economic barrier for the diaspora, potentially boosting foreign investment and remittances while enabling citizens abroad to secure property in their homeland.
