Latvia's trains could run slightly faster in the future
Electric trains between Rīga and Jelgava may be able to travel at speeds of up to 140 kilometres per hour (km/h) in the future. That is 20 km/h faster than the current speed, according to Latvian Railways, Latvian Radio reported on June 4.
Latvian Railways is considering increasing the speed limit for electric trains operating on the Rīga to Jelgava route. The proposed speed increase would allow trains to reach up to 140 kilometers per hour, a 20 km/h boost from the current maximum speed. This potential upgrade aims to improve travel times on this significant rail corridor.
This development could lead to faster and more efficient public transportation between Latvia's capital and Jelgava.
