New $60 million radiotherapy facility opens at Whangārei Hospital

Whangārei Hospital has inaugurated a new $60.9 million radiation therapy facility, named Te Hihiri Whakahauora, designed to serve over 350 cancer patients annually from the Northland region. This state-of-the-art, three-level building is equipped with a linear accelerator and a CT scanner, significantly reducing the need for patients to travel to Auckland for treatment. The facility also includes provisions for future expansion with an additional radiation bunker.

This new facility will dramatically improve access to essential cancer treatment for Northland residents, alleviating the significant personal and financial burden of traveling long distances for care.
