Members of the ChristenUnie party have endorsed the more stringent asylum policy advocated by the party leadership. This decision was confirmed at the party congress held in Harderwijk.
Despite some internal dissent, including from former MP Leen van Dijke who expressed concerns about the party shifting too far to the right, the members rejected a motion to withdraw support for the abolition of penalty payments for the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND). Party leader Bikker defended the decision, describing the asylum system as chaotic and stating that the penalty payments have proven ineffective.
