Nieuwsuur investigated seven major Dutch online stores selling anti-asylum seeker center merchandise. Researchers observed a significant amount of branded items at anti-AZC demonstrations, prompting a deeper look into the origins of these products. Many of these shops, and their owners, are active on social media platforms. The top three stores with the largest followings have been found to re-share content related to remigration, neo-Nazis, and protest violence both domestically and internationally.
This investigation highlights how online sales of merchandise can contribute to the normalization and spread of extremist ideologies.
