Raízen, a major energy company in Brazil and the operator of Shell gas stations, has secured creditor support for a significant financial restructuring plan involving approximately R$ 64.7 billion in debt. The proposal includes new capital injections from shareholders, extended payment terms, and the conversion of a portion of the debt into equity. Shell will contribute R$ 3.5 billion, and 45% of the debt under the extrajudicial recovery process will be converted into company shares, with the remainder subject to renegotiated payment schedules. Additionally, Raízen plans to split its operations into two independent entities by the end of 2027: one for sugar, ethanol, and bioenergy, and another for fuel and lubricants distribution under the Shell brand. This move aims to alleviate cash flow pressures and position the company for future growth without disrupting its ongoing business commitments.
This restructuring is crucial for the stability of a major player in Brazil's energy sector, impacting fuel supply, agricultural production, and consumer access to essential products and services.
