Rescuers have called off the search for two men trapped in a flooded cave in Laos for over two weeks. A Malaysian cave diver involved in the operation stated that continuing the mission posed too great a risk, with the chances of a successful rescue being minimal. The men became trapped on May 20th after heavy rains flooded the cave, blocking their exit while they were hunting. Five other men from the group were located and rescued the following week, with four guided out after water was pumped from the cave and one extracted by divers.
The suspension of the rescue operation highlights the extreme dangers and challenges faced in such complex extraction scenarios.
