A dual-layer vector map encryption scheme using 4D hyperchaos and SM4

Vector map data, as a fundamental component of national geographic information, plays a strategic role in areas such as national security, urban planning, and smart city development. However, with the rapid advancement of information technology, vector map data faces increasing security challenges during transmission and storage. On the one hand, traditional coordinate-scrambling methods are vulnerable to reverse analysis since the numerical values remain essentially unchange

A new dual-layer encryption technique has been developed to secure sensitive vector map data, which is crucial for national security and urban planning. This method combines a four-dimensional hyperchaotic system with the SM4 cryptographic algorithm to enhance data protection during transmission and storage. The hyperchaotic system generates highly random sequences used to scramble map coordinates, altering spatial relationships and making the data harder to analyze. These sequences also create dynamic keys for the SM4 algorithm, providing a deeper level of encryption for the coordinate values themselves. Experiments show this approach effectively safeguards point, polyline, and polygon data against various cyber threats, including brute-force and differential attacks.

This advancement is significant because it offers a more robust defense for vital geographic information against increasingly sophisticated digital security threats.
