Mobile health clinics are significantly improving access to vital cancer screenings for women in remote Arusha District Council. These initiatives, part of the East Africa Women’s Cancer Project, bring breast and cervical cancer detection services directly to communities, overcoming geographical and awareness barriers. Recent outreach efforts successfully screened over 2,500 women for breast cancer and nearly 330 for cervical cancer, exceeding initial targets.
The screenings have already led to the identification of several potential health issues, with some women referred for further diagnosis and treatment. The project also supports HPV vaccination for young girls, aiming to bolster cancer prevention across East Africa.
This program is crucial for early detection of cancers in underserved populations, potentially saving lives by enabling timely treatment before diseases become advanced and harder to manage.
