The Campinas region in São Paulo state is the leading producer of biomethane, accounting for 47% of the state's daily output. This renewable fuel, derived from purified biogas from organic waste decomposition, is increasingly utilized for vehicle fleets, electricity generation, and residential/industrial consumption. The Paulínia Landfill, the largest in Brazil, is a significant contributor, currently producing 110,000 cubic meters of biomethane daily with plans to double its capacity. Despite the environmental and economic benefits highlighted by experts, some local residents have raised concerns about persistent unpleasant odors emanating from the production facilities.
