Hong Kong's annual Pink Dot celebration, a significant event for the LGBTQ community, has been canceled for the second consecutive year. Organizers announced the cancellation for the event scheduled this June, citing issues with their license application and venue availability. Last year's event also faced a venue refusal, breaking a five-year streak at the West Kowloon Cultural District.
Pink Dot, which aims to foster diversity and inclusion, has a history of adapting to challenges, including previous cancellations due to protests and pandemic restrictions. However, the recent consecutive cancellations have left the community and organizers questioning the future of such public Pride events in the city.
The cancellation of Pink Dot raises concerns about the space for public LGBTQ+ expression and community gatherings in Hong Kong.
