The Bangladeshi government is significantly increasing its allocation for social security programs in the upcoming fiscal year 2026-27, earmarking a total of 1.45 trillion taka. This represents a substantial rise from the 1.16 trillion taka allocated in the current fiscal year. The budget will introduce new initiatives like the "Family Card" and "Farmer Card," alongside expanding existing programs such as old-age allowances by increasing both the number of beneficiaries and the payout amounts. A key decision mandates that all beneficiaries must possess a National Identity Card (NID), with birth registration and parental NIDs required for those under 18. The "Dynamic Social Registry (DSR)" system will be implemented to ensure accurate selection of beneficiaries and improve data management within these programs.

This increased investment aims to alleviate poverty, reduce social inequality, and improve the living standards of vulnerable populations across the country.
