Bangladesh is moving to allow the import of fully built motorcycles up to 375cc, a significant increase from the current 165cc limit. While parts for higher-capacity bikes can be imported for local assembly, importing complete units above 165cc has been restricted. This policy change, expected to be finalized this month, aims to permit the import of fully assembled 375cc motorcycles. However, exceptions are being considered for law enforcement and military forces, allowing them access to higher-capacity bikes regardless of the general import limit.

This policy shift could impact local manufacturing investment, potentially creating competition for domestic assemblers and increasing foreign exchange expenditure, while also raising concerns about law enforcement's operational capabilities with higher-powered motorcycles.
