Students at a high school in Rome, located near the Colosseum, have stumbled upon a significant archaeological find beneath their gymnasium. Rumors of hidden rooms led to explorations that uncovered ancient structures. Following their discovery, archaeologists were called in and confirmed the existence of a luxurious Roman villa dating back to the 2nd century CE. The villa, now named Domus Liceo Cavour, features well-preserved frescoes, stucco decorations, and a mosaic floor.
This discovery provides valuable insights into the domestic life and artistic styles of the Roman elite during the Imperial period, in an area historically rich but archaeologically complex.
