For women aged 20-24, this figure rises to about 26%. The average age difference at first marriage is around six years, with men marrying later than women. Socioeconomic factors, including the tendency for men to marry after starting to earn and the prevalence of child marriage for girls, contribute to this disparity. In extremely poor families, the age gap at first marriage is more pronounced.
The significant age difference in marriages, especially when involving underage brides, raises concerns about child marriage and potential power imbalances within relationships.
