Police cars rammed by vehicle that caught fire after being spiked
A fleeing driver kept going despite the wheels being spiked, with the car smoking and on fire, say police.
Two individuals were apprehended following a dangerous pursuit that concluded in Havelock North. A vehicle, previously involved in a police chase, was spotted by officers and fled through multiple towns. Police successfully deployed a spike strip, disabling the vehicle's tires, but the driver continued to flee even as the car caught fire. The vehicle eventually came to a stop and rammed two police cars in an attempt to escape, though no injuries were reported. The two occupants, a man and a woman, were arrested and face additional charges.
This incident highlights the risks posed by fleeing drivers to public safety and the potential for escalating dangerous situations during police pursuits.
