Five Bangladeshi college students, under the team name Polaris, have won an international competition organized by CERN, the world's largest particle physics research organization. Their research focused on particle physics, a complex scientific field. The team, comprising students from different colleges and coached by a university student, proposed a new scintillator material for use in radiotherapy. This innovative material, based on polysiloxane, aims to address the degradation issues of current polyvinyl toluene-based scintillators when exposed to high radiation and temperatures.

Their winning proposal earned them an opportunity to visit and test their research at CERN, DESY, and ELSA research facilities in Germany. The competition saw participation from approximately 4,500 students from 89 countries, with 712 research proposals submitted.

This achievement highlights the scientific potential of young Bangladeshi students on a global stage and could lead to advancements in medical technology.
