A rigorous protocol implemented at the Dr. Adib Domingos Jatene Regional Hospital in Sorocaba, Brazil, has successfully reduced the use of strong antibiotics in hospitalized patients by up to 36.5%. This initiative, detailed in a study by researchers from the University of Sorocaba (Uniso), also contributes to public savings and combats the growing threat of "superbugs". The findings were recently published in the international scientific journal Antibiotics. The research focused on the impact of an Antimicrobial Use Management Program on antibiotic consumption, bacterial susceptibility, and costs within a public hospital setting. The study analyzed data from 2019 to 2023, observing significant reductions in the use of critical antibiotics like Vancomycin and Ceftriaxone.
