A group of six major European economies, dubbed the E6, are pushing forward with an initiative to deepen economic integration, echoing a long-held idea by the late German politician Wolfgang Schäuble. This bloc, comprising Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, and the Netherlands, aims to establish a Capital Markets Union. The primary goal is to unlock investment capital to boost the competitiveness of European businesses, particularly in high-value sectors where they lag behind the US and China. The E6 plan to present their proposal for the Capital Markets Union at an upcoming ECOFIN meeting, seeking support from at least nine other EU member states to advance the initiative.
