Former Mayor of Sreepur Municipality, Anisur Rahman (65), passed away on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Uttara, Dhaka. He had been suffering from various health complications including kidney and heart disease for a long time and was undergoing regular dialysis. Tragically, his sister, Rashida Khatun (62), also died on her way to the hospital after falling ill upon hearing the news of her brother's death. Anisur Rahman was a prominent figure in local politics, having served as the founding mayor of Sreepur Municipality and was a former organizational secretary of the Gazipur District Awami League. He was elected mayor for the fourth time in January 2021.
