Intesa Sanpaolo has reportedly launched a takeover bid for Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS), a move that intensifies the race for the struggling Italian bank. Banco BPM is also said to be considering a merger proposal for MPS. As part of Intesa Sanpaolo's potential acquisition, Unipol is expected to acquire approximately half of MPS's branches. Intesa Sanpaolo would retain Mediobanca, Generali's stake, and other branches.
