MANILA: Gempa bumi magnitud 7.8 landa perairan luar pesisir Sarangani di selatan negara itu pagi tadi, lapor Pemantau Geologikal Amerika Syarikat (USGS) Sehubungan itu, Jepun mengeluarkan amaran tsunami di sepanjang pantai Pasifik manakala agensi geofizik Indonesia turut mengeluarkan amaran tsunami bagi kawasan pesisiran timur laut negara itu. Institut Vulkanologi dan Seismologi Filipina (PHIVOLCS) pula mengeluarkan amaran tsunami melebihi satu meter berpotensi landa sembilan
A powerful magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani in the southern Philippines early this morning, according to the USGS. Following the tremor, Japan and Indonesia issued tsunami warnings for their Pacific and eastern coastal areas, respectively. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) also warned of potential tsunami waves exceeding one meter along nine coastal areas in the Philippines. Residents in low-lying coastal regions across several provinces, including Sarangani and Davao Occidental, have been advised to evacuate to higher ground or inland areas. Boat owners in shallow waters were instructed to secure their vessels and move away from the coast, while those at sea were told to remain in deep waters.
The earthquake and subsequent tsunami warnings pose a significant risk to coastal communities in the Philippines and neighboring countries, necessitating immediate safety measures and preparedness.
