Authorities in Seremban have rescued a nine-year-old girl who was allegedly confined to a storeroom by her adoptive mother during the recent school holidays. The child, who had been with the adoptive family since she was 18 months old, was reportedly fed only twice a day and only allowed out of the storeroom to use the toilet. Investigations suggest the girl was also subjected to verbal abuse and physical punishment for minor infractions, such as taking food at night.
Police arrested a 46-year-old woman in connection with the case and have sent the child to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital for medical examination and treatment. The suspect is being held for further investigation under the Child Act 2001.
