Appeal launched on highway crash that killed infant, woman
The 23-month-old baby and a woman were killed in a three-car collision between Port Douglas and Cairns in late May.
Authorities are renewing their request for public assistance regarding a fatal three-vehicle collision that occurred on the Captain Cook Highway last month. The incident, which took place near the Reynolds Road intersection on May 22, resulted in the deaths of a 34-year-old woman and a toddler. Investigators believe a white Mitsubishi utility struck a red Mazda before colliding with the victims' white MG3 hatchback. A second passenger in the hatchback remains in critical condition following the crash, while the driver of the utility sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Police are specifically seeking dashcam footage or witness accounts from anyone who was in the vicinity during the time of the accident. The investigation remains ongoing as officials work to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The police are seeking additional evidence to finalize their investigation into a high-fatality traffic incident that has left the local community searching for answers.
