Minorities Commission takes up complaints of reluctance by banks to extend loans to beneficiaries from minority communities in Karnataka
Complaints had also been received that educational loan applications submitted by students were pending with banks
The Karnataka State Minorities Commission has launched an inquiry into allegations that financial institutions are hesitant to provide loans to individuals from minority backgrounds. During a review meeting in Chamarajanagar, Commission Chairman U. Nisar Ahmed addressed reports of delayed educational loan applications and requested a comprehensive breakdown of current disbursement data. He emphasized that all eligible street vendors must be granted access to government-backed credit facilities without unnecessary obstacles. Furthermore, the commission has called for improved oversight of housing schemes to ensure timely delivery of benefits across rural and urban regions. Officials were also instructed to track the enrollment of minority children in schools and anganwadis to ensure compliance with the Right to Education Act. The commission aims to resolve these systemic hurdles to guarantee that minority communities receive their entitled government support.
This investigation highlights potential systemic discrimination in financial access and service delivery for marginalized communities, which could undermine the effectiveness of national welfare programs.
