Perth paediatrician facing child sex charges to remain behind bars as more alleged victims identified
It is alleged the offending occurred with patients inside Chia Saw’s consulting rooms.
A Perth paediatrician accused of child sex assault will remain behind bars after more alleged victims were identified.
Dr Chia Saw, 41, was arrested last month and charged with one count of persistent sexual conduct with a child between 2023 and 2026, and one count of possessing child exploitation material.
It is alleged the victim was one of his patients, and the incident occurred at his workplace. Saw is a consultant and regularly works at practices and hospitals across a number of Perth suburbs including Nedlands and Midland.
He was due to apply for bail in Perth Magistrates Court on Monday, but a hearing on whether to grant his freedom was delayed due to the case against him still unfolding.
Prosecutors alleged that, since laying charges against Saw, a further eight potential victims had been identified as police reviewed footage from an alleged hidden camera inside a hospital consulting room.
A further five children were being interviewed by investigators this week, leading the magistrate to delay Saw’s bail application until she had a summary of all the facts and allegations against him.
On Friday, the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency suspended Saw’s registration, barring him from practicing in Australia pending the outcome of his criminal charges.
Saw is due to appear in court for a bail application hearing on June 19.
