■ (5th LD) Xi arrives in Pyongyang as N. Korea leader offers personal welcome
SEOUL -- Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in North Korea on Monday, China's state media reported, with leader Kim Jong-un making a rare public appearance at the airport to personally welcome Xi, who is on a two-day state visit that also marks his first trip to Pyongyang in nearly seven years.
Xi landed in Pyongyang earlier in the day at the invitation of Kim, China's Xinhua News Agency reported. He was accompanied by his wife, Peng Liyuan, as well as Cai Qi, director of the general office of the Communist Party's central committee, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

JEJU, South Korea -- The Jeju provincial government said Monday it has recently sent dialysis machines, tangerine saplings and other supplies to North Korea as part of an inter-Korean cooperation project.
The items, worth 160 million won (US$104,000), arrived in North Korea's western port of Nampho on May 4 after they were shipped from South Korea's western port of Incheon on April 1 via the Chinese port of Dalian, according to the province.

DAEJEON -- The chief executive officer of Hanwha Aerospace has been booked over a deadly explosion at one of the company's plants last week, labor authorities said Monday.
Sohn Jae-il is suspected of violating the Serious Accidents Punishment Act in connection with the June 1 explosion that killed five workers and injured two others in the central city of Daejeon, according to the Daejeon Regional Employment and Labor Office.
