The government has officially appointed a new chairman and managing director for the newly formed Shammilito Islami Bank. Kazi Shairul Hasan, formerly of Saudi-Bangladesh Industrial and Agricultural Investment Company, has been named chairman, while Abedur Rahman Sikdar, previously a deputy managing director at Dutch-Bangla Bank, will serve as the CEO. Both appointees have been granted three-year terms, pending final clearance from the central bank. This financial institution was established by merging five Shariah-based banks that struggled to return depositor funds. With a total paid-up capital of 35,000 crore taka, the bank operates with significant government backing to stabilize the sector.

The appointment marks a critical step in the government's effort to restructure and stabilize the banking sector following the merger of several distressed Shariah-based financial institutions.
