Starting next school year, Pyxiscollege in Lanaken will implement a ban on fatbikes for students in the first two years of secondary education. School administrators stated that the current bicycle parking facilities are unsuitable for these specific types of bikes. The primary concern is a steep incline leading to the storage area, which poses a significant safety risk for younger students maneuvering the heavy vehicles. Students in the third year and above will not be affected by this policy, as they attend classes at a different campus location where infrastructure is better suited for these bikes. The school aims to prevent accidents by restricting access to the junior campus.
This decision highlights the growing infrastructure challenges schools face as fatbikes become more popular among younger students.
