YouTuber Maridhas was arrested in Madurai on Monday (June 8, 2026) in a case registered by the Chennai Cyber Crime Wing on charges of posting “derogatory and obscene” remarks on social media about a woman Minister in Tamil Nadu.
He was picked up by a special team of Chennai police in Madurai on Monday morning and brought to Chennai later. The police claimed he published videos and posts against Ministers, including a woman member of the Cabinet headed by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay. The police said he also made remarks against ruling TVK functionaries.
The team of police personnel from Chennai, along with the Madurai City police, had deployed heavy security around Maridhas’ house located in Surya Nagar in Madurai. Subsequently, the police arrested him and took him to Chennai.
He was booked under Sections 79 (punishment for insulting the modesty of a woman) and 352(2) (the act of making, publishing, or circulating statements or reports containing false information, rumors, or alarming news, including through electronic means, with the intent to create or promote hostility among groups) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as provisions of the Information Technology Act.
