A missing B.Tech student from Hyderabad is believed to have been dead after a body recovered from a well in Andhra Pradesh’s Prakasam district was suspected to be his, the city police said on Monday (June 8, 2026). Confirmation is awaited through DNA analysis.
The student, Ankam Rahul, was reported missing after his father, Ankam Rajeswar, a resident of Jagtial district, lodged a complaint with Kachiguda Police. A case was subsequently registered regarding his disappearance.
The police said Rahul, who was pursuing B.Tech and staying at Lakshmikala Boys Hostel in Saidabad, was last seen on May 27 at Kachiguda Tourist Junction. According to the complaint, he got down from a friend’s motorcycle and told him that he was going out with some friends before leaving the spot. Rahul had been untraceable since then.
During the investigation, Kachiguda Police examined multiple leads and explored various angles to trace the student. On the night of June 7, investigators received information that an unidentified body had been recovered from a well on May 30 within the limits of Singarayakonda Police Station in Prakasam district, where a separate case had been registered.
The police said the personal belongings and other articles recovered from the deceased matched the description and identity details of Rahul. However, officials said scientific confirmation through DNA testing is still pending.
The information was conveyed to the student’s family members, and further investigation is underway. The police have not yet disclosed the circumstances that led to the death and said the exact identity of the deceased will be established after the DNA examination report is received.
