Macau Public Security Police deputy head among 26 arrested over prostitution rings
The deputy head of the Macau Public Security Police (PSP) is among 26 people arrested after the city’s Judiciary Police (PJ) smashed three prostitution rings last week, according to local media. Apart from PSP Deputy Commissioner Leong Heng Hong, 60, the PJ also nabbed two other serving PSP officers and two retired PJ officers, Macau Business reported on Monday. Authorities in Macau have dismantled three major prostitution syndicates following a series of coordinated raids across dozens of locations. Among the 26 individuals arrested are high-ranking officials, including the deputy commissioner of the Public Security Police and two other active-duty officers. Two retired members of the Judiciary Police were also implicated in the scheme, which allegedly operated for eight years. Investigators claim the criminal groups generated hundreds of millions of patacas while paying monthly bribes to law enforcement to facilitate their illicit activities. The suspects, who include residents from Macau, mainland China, and Hong Kong, are accused of trafficking women from Asia and Eastern Europe for sex work. Twelve of the detainees have been remanded in custody as the Public Prosecutions Office continues its formal investigation into the corruption and organized crime charges.
The involvement of senior law enforcement officials in a long-running, multi-million dollar human trafficking and bribery scheme represents a significant breach of public trust and institutional integrity in Macau.
