IRINGA: THE Tanzanian government has continued to focus on developing sports talents in the country with the aim of preparing a generation of athletes that will represent and bring honor to Tanzania in various national and international competitions. Speaking at the Tanzania’s Union of the Inter Primary School Games (UMITASHUMTA) held in Iringa region, the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training Zanzibar, Amos John, said that the government has continued to invest in the sports sector and the results of this investment have already begun to be seen. “The results of this investment are clearly visible through the U-17 national team, Serengeti Boys, that reached the U7-U17 Final in Morocco. We expect to use this year’s competition to get more players who will be used in various National teams in the future,” said Amos. Earlier, welcoming the guest of honor, the Acting Director of the Sports, Culture and Arts Coordination Unit of the Prime Minister’s Office – RALGM, Yusuph Singo, said preparations for the UMITASHUMTA 2026 competition have been successfully completed. He noted that all participants from various regions of Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar have arrived and been received ready for the start of the competition. The competition, which brings together athletes from all regions of Mainland Tanzania including Unguja and Pemba, is expected to be officially opened on June 9, 2026 by the Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office – RALGM, Professor Riziki Shemdoe.
