TAWIRI: Use wildlife science, not guesswork to sell Tanzania

KILIMANJARO: The Tanzania Wildlife Research Institute (TAWIRI) has urged tourism students, including aspiring tour guides, to use scientific information on wildlife to enhance the promotion of Tanzania’s tourism attractions. Speaking to students from Tropical Centre College during the Karibu KILI FAIR 2026 exhibition, TAWIRI Public Relations Officer, Flora Joseph, said scientific information adds significant value to tourism marketing and helps visitors better understand the country’s wildlife resources. Joseph explained that promoting tourist attractions using facts, research findings and reliable statistics enables tourists to appreciate the richness of Tanzania’s wildlife and natural heritage. ALSO READ: RC Mtanda: Keep culture, ditch harmful traditions She further noted that science based storytelling is a powerful tool for promoting sustainable tourism and wildlife conservation. “By integrating scientific knowledge into tourism interpretation, tour guides can provide more engaging, informative, and memorable experiences for visitors while fostering greater awareness of the importance of protecting wildlife and their habitats,” said Joseph.
