Cyprus beer exports plunge in May
Cyprus’ total beer deliveries fell by 2.4 per cent year-on-year in May , driven by a steep contraction in exports, according to the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat). According to the data, total beer deliveries, covering both the domestic market and exports, reached 4,389,649 litres in May 2026 , compared with 4,497,608 litres in May 2025 , reflecting the overall decline. The fall was primarily attributed to a sharp drop in beer exports , which recorded a decrease of 31.3
Cyprus experienced a 2.4 percent decline in total beer deliveries during May 2026 compared to the same period last year, with volumes dropping to approximately 4.39 million litres. This downturn was largely fueled by a significant 31.3 percent collapse in international exports, which fell to 262,090 litres. Conversely, the domestic market remained resilient, showing a marginal growth of 0.3 percent in local consumption. While the stability of local demand provided some cushion, it was insufficient to counteract the substantial loss in foreign trade. Despite the year-on-year decrease, the industry saw a positive shift when compared to the previous month. Total deliveries surged by 28.9 percent between April and May 2026, a trend attributed to seasonal fluctuations in consumer demand.
The data highlights a growing reliance on the domestic market as Cyprus's beer industry faces significant volatility in its international export performance.
