The seventh Nkurenkuru Expo gala dinner raised N$600 500 on Saturday, boosting preparations for this year’s event, which will run from 24 July to 2 August under the theme ‘Empowering Economic Growth and Celebrating Heritage’. Speaking at the dinner, Nkurenkuru Town Council management committee chairperson Robert Katura, delivering remarks on behalf of former president and Nkurenkuru Expo patron Hifikepunye Pohamba, said the funds would help turn the expo into a practical platform for jobs and business opportunities, not just an annual social event. Pohamba said the theme was chosen to link economic activity with cultural identity. “Economic growth is not merely about statistics and financial indicators, it is about creating opportunities for our people, reducing poverty, empowering youth entrepreneurs, supporting small businesses and improving the quality of life for all citizens,” he said. Pohamba stressed that development must respect local traditions. “A nation that preserves its heritage while embracing innovation is a nation that is well positioned for future success,” he said, calling the Nkurenkuru Expo “a platform for dialogue, networking, investment promotion and business development” for Kavango West and beyond. Kavango West governor Verna Sinimbo welcomed the support from businesses, institutions and individuals, saying every pledge to the expo is an investment in jobs and skills for young people in the region. She encouraged investors to look at the area’s fertile land, natural resources and strategic location as a base for long-term growth. “The future of Namibia rests in your hands,” she told the youth, urging them to use the expo to learn, innovate, network and start enterprises instead of waiting only for formal employment. She added that entrepreneurship should be seen as a pathway to creating jobs and contributing to national development. Both speakers thanked the sponsors and appealed for continued backing as organisers work to attract more exhibitors and build partnerships that will outlive the expo itself. – Nampa The post Nkurenkuru expo gala dinner raises N$600 500 appeared first on The Namibian .
