Assistant Director in the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department Sadanand Amarapur, now serving in the Hubballi Taluk Panchayat, has created a record of sorts by successfully completing Ultraman Australia 2026, an internationally acclaimed ultra endurance event.
Sadanand who holds additional charge as Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Karnataka, has also become the first person from the State to complete the event.
Ultraman Australia is conducted over three days covering a total distance of approximately 515 km, including a 10-km swim, 421-km cycling and an 84-km ultra-marathon run.
Sadanand completed the event within the official cut-off time of 31 hours 35 minutes 09 seconds.
Sadanand told The Hindu that two years of continuous hard work, sacrifice and disciplined training helped in achieving the rare feat.
His training for the event comprised late-night cycling and running sessions after office hours.
While his wife Mukta, a manager at Karnataka Grameen Bank, took care of his nutrition and planning and led the crew, his coach and friend Deccaman Prashanth Hipparagi provided him structured training schedules and guided him in his preparation.
Sadanand’s crew comprised Max, Teaghan, Mark, Ann and Trilise. His family members travelled to Australia to be with him during the event which was held on May 9, 10 and 11 at Noosa, Australia.
A total of 40 athletes from across the globe participated in the event which had nine participants (including Sadanand) from India. In fact, Sadanand was the first among the Indians in the cycling event and second among the Indians who completed the event.
