The Thamarassery grama panchayat has come up with a new master plan aimed at the comprehensive development of Thamarassery. The panchayat committee has approved the Vision 2030 plan and a preliminary estimate for the project, which is expected to cost more than ₹2 crore.

Thamarassery panchayat vice president Navas Earpona said a sum of ₹60 lakh had been earmarked for the initial works. Officials said a detailed estimate would be prepared after calculating the costs of individual components, following which the project proposal would be submitted to the District Planning Committee for approval. Once clearance is obtained, tenders will be invited, and the project will be implemented.

The project focuses on a comprehensive redevelopment that integrates mobility, public infrastructure and everyday urban life.

A central component is the redevelopment of the existing bus stand into a modern transit hub. The Thamarassery Integrated Transit Hub, officials said, will feature an organised transit system with dedicated bus bays and elevated auto circulation. It will also include a town square, park, community stage and shopping complex, supported by underground parking.

As part of the beautification efforts, handrails will be installed, and flowering plants will be planted along roadsides. Open gyms will be set up where space permits. New bus shelters will be constructed, and welcome signboards will be installed at the entry points to the panchayat.

The local body aims to create a “sustainable streetscape” by transforming historic roadside trees from “passive landmarks into active social anchors.”
