Mysuru is gearing up to celebrate the 12th International Day of Yoga on June 21, with plans to engage around 1.2 lakh participants at 120 locations across the district.

The district-level main event will be held at the Mysuru palace premises from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. and will feature a mass yoga demonstration involving yoga institutions, students, government departments and members of the public.

Reviewing preparations at a meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Monday, Additional Deputy Commissioner Aishwarya R. called upon citizens to make yoga a part of their daily routine rather than viewing it as a one-day observance.

“Yoga promotes holistic well-being by strengthening the body’s muscles and nerves and contributes significantly to physical and mental health. It should become an integral part of everyday life,” she said.

The celebrations are expected to witness participation across the district. According to Mysuru Yoga Federation’s Srihari, nearly 1,200 yoga instructors will conduct coordinated sessions at 120 venues, with an estimated 1.2 lakh people expected to take part.

He said the initiative is aimed at further strengthening Mysuru’s reputation as a global yoga destination.

To ensure that the benefits of yoga extend beyond the annual celebration, District AYUSH Officer Renuka Devi announced the launch of an online yoga programme under the ‘Daily Yoga’ initiative from June 22. The programme will provide year-round access to guided yoga sessions for citizens.

Various departments have been assigned responsibilities for the smooth conduct of the event. The Mysuru City Corporation will oversee sanitation and drinking water arrangements, the Mysuru Palace Board will provide stage and sound infrastructure, while the police department will handle security and crowd management.
