A 38-year-old labourer from Madhya Pradesh was allegedly robbed of ₹110 and murdered with stones in an isolated area near Secunderabad Railway Station, with police arresting two delivery workers for the crime.
The accused, Dhabee Vinod, 30, a grocery delivery worker from Tukaramgate, and Makkala Mohan, 19, an e-commerce delivery worker from Addagutta, were arrested by Lallaguda Police on June 8.
DCP Secunderabad zone, Rakshita Murthy, said that the duo allegedly killed Jai Prakash Deshmukh and fled with his cash and mobile phone.
Deshmukh, a native of Balaghat district in Madhya Pradesh, was working as a mason in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. Police said he had arrived in Secunderabad from Kazipet on the evening of June 2 and was planning to travel to Miyapur to meet his brother.
According to investigators, the accused spotted Deshmukh near Monda Market and offered to drop him near Secunderabad Railway Station. Police alleged that the duo instead took him to an isolated stretch near the bypass road between the Railway Bridge at Tukaramgate and Railway Nilayam with the intention of robbing him.
“When Deshmukh resisted, the accused allegedly attacked him with stones, causing fatal head injuries, before stealing ₹110 in cash and his mobile phone,” said the DCP.
The crime came to light in the early hours of June 3 when police received a Dial 100 call reporting a body lying in a pool of blood.
Officers found the victim with severe head injuries and recovered two blood-stained stones from the scene.
The officer added that examination of CCTV footage, technical evidence and local intelligence led to the identification of the accused. The stolen mobile phone and the electric bike allegedly used in the offence were recovered.
“Vinod had previously been involved in a criminal case registered in 2021. The accused were produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody,” added the DCP.
