A prompt action by the police helped avert a major fire accident at a transport godown in Sudhama Nagar on Thursday evening, saving goods worth an estimated ₹1 crore.

The incident occurred at the godown around 4.30 p.m. when a member of the public noticed flames emerging from the premises and alerted the Namma 112 Emergency Helpline.

Acting on the information, the Namma 112 personnel immediately informed the Hoysala-20 and Hoysala-21 patrol teams attached to the Wilson Garden Police Station. Assistant sub-inspectors Srikantaiah and Altaf Hussain Dakhani, along with police constable Nagappa, rushed to the spot and found that the fire had already begun spreading inside the godown.

Recognising the gravity of the situation, the police arranged for a public water tanker and tried to put out the fire even before firefighters arrived. They also moved several cars and motorcycles parked nearby to safety, preventing the blaze from spreading to adjacent vehicles and properties.

The personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services Department later reached the spot and brought the fire under control.

No casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. The police said goods valued at approximately ₹1 crore were saved from destruction due to the timely intervention of the Hoysala teams.
