The Lokayukta officials on Monday caught an Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology red-handed while accepting a bribe from a businessman for clearing a pending licence application.
The complainant, Kiran R.M., son of R. Muniraju and a consultant residing in R.S. Palya, alleged that Vanishree M.S., Assistant Controller of Legal Metrology, 4th Circle, Mapana Bhavan, demanded a bribe to approve a packaging licence related to mobile accessories.
The official had allegedly demanded ₹10,000 to process the application. Following the complaint, the officials laid a trap and reportedly caught the officer while accepting ₹5,000 as part of the bribe amount.
Vanishree has been taken into custody under the Prevention of Corruption act. Further investigation is under way.
