Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran on Monday called upon the State government to make alternative arrangements for agricultural operations in the Cauvery delta as there was little likelihood of the Mettur dam being opened on the scheduled date of June 12.
Mr. Dhinakaran pointed out that during Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s next visit to New Delhi, he should take up the Cauvery matter with the national leadership of the Congress to use their good offices with Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to release Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery water and ensure that the Mekedatu project did not take off.
In another post, Mr. Dhinakaran expressed concern over reports in sections of the media that Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), a public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Defence, had planned to shift the site of shipbuilding facility to Andhra Pradesh instead of the original place of Thoothukudi, for which the PSU had signed an MOU with the Tamil Nadu government. He urged the TVK government to pay greater attention to woo industrial investment, create opportunities for employment to the youth, and develop the State’s economy. The AMMK general secretary also condemned the arrest of a prominent figure on social media Maridhas.
