Congress cadres staged a novel protest against the latest hike in domestic LPG price by cooking food with firewood as part of ‘Vanta Vaarpu’ demonstration in Karimnagar on Monday.
The protest was led by District Congress Committee (DCC) president and Choppadandi MLA Medipally Sathyam.
The agitated party cadres displayed empty LPG cylinders highlighting the impact of the soaring LPG prices on every household and its ripple effects on eateries and hotels.
The demonstrators raised slogans condemning what they termed as the second steep increase of LPG prices in a span of three months.
Addressing the demonstration, the Congress leaders alleged that the price of each 14.2-kg domestic LPG cylinder has gone up by ₹89, following the latest hike in cooking gas price.
They alleged that people were virtually forced to revert to firewood for cooking food due to the skyrocketing price of LPG coupled with shortage of cooking gas cylinders.
They demanded immediate rollback of the hike in the price of LPG.
