Centre cuts PM-Ujjwala Yojana refills from 9 to 4
PMUY has provided more than 10.55 crore LPG connections since it was formally inaugurated in 2016.
The Indian government has officially reduced the annual subsidized LPG cylinder refill limit for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) from nine to four. This adjustment marks a significant shift in the operational parameters of the welfare scheme, which was first launched in 2016 to promote cleaner cooking fuel. Since its inception, the initiative has successfully distributed over 105 million gas connections to households across the country. Authorities have not yet provided a detailed explanation for the reduction in refill support. The move directly impacts the budgetary allocation and consumption patterns of millions of low-income families who rely on this program for their daily energy needs.
The policy change directly affects the affordability and accessibility of cooking fuel for over 100 million households enrolled in a major national welfare program.
