Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) has launched a five-day intensive training program focused on the 'One Health' framework to enhance Tanzania's ability to manage future pandemics. The initiative, developed in partnership with the One Health Society, gathers 20 professionals from across the nation to improve coordination between human, animal, and environmental health sectors. Participants are receiving instruction in disease surveillance, risk communication, and multisectoral collaboration to ensure early detection of emerging threats. Prof. Emmanuel Balandya emphasized that this academic-professional collaboration is vital for building a resilient national health security system. By integrating diverse expertise, the program aims to address the complex challenges posed by zoonotic diseases and environmental shifts. This effort underscores the university's ongoing commitment to leveraging research and training to mitigate global health risks.
The training is significant because it builds local capacity to manage zoonotic diseases, which are increasingly threatening global health security by crossing the boundaries between humans, animals, and the environment.
