Fiscal Council says EXPO 2027 could cost 3.4 billion Euro

The Serbian Fiscal Council has estimated that the total financial commitment for the EXPO 2027 project and its related infrastructure developments could reach 3.4 billion Euro. While the government has already allocated significant funding, the council noted that tracking these expenditures is difficult because they are dispersed across various state budget lines. Current data indicates that approximately 2 billion Euro will be spent by the end of 2025 on the national stadium, transport networks, and railway improvements. Beyond these construction efforts, the total projection accounts for an additional 550 million Euro for the event itself and 850 million Euro for supplementary infrastructure. As an independent oversight body, the council emphasized that these figures encompass both capital investments and operational subsidies.

The report highlights significant transparency challenges and potential fiscal strain associated with the large-scale public spending required for Serbia's hosting of EXPO 2027.
